Abstract
This paper and video presentation present a reflexive inquiry into my teaching as an adult music educator, through the lens of play. My goal as an educator is to create the environment that encourages students to create their own view of how to be a musician and to express themselves through music. During my inquiry I utilized play and playfulness as a method during a year of teaching as a tool to create a pathway to a more constructivist environment for students and to study that process. Along with a new way to approach teaching the result was an appreciation of students’ creativity, the realization of community as well as the discovery of identity as a music educator.
