Brown reported that she was invited to Province House for an announcement that the Province of Nova Scotia has signed an agreement that will allow international students to work for two years following their graduation. 5. Woolcott that Senate approve the revisions to By-law 1.1, Senate Membership. CARRIED. 7.2 Academic Appeals Committee 2 Notice of Motion: Revision to By-law 14.2 Moved by L. Theriault, seconded by J. McLaren that Senate approve the revision to By-law 14.2. CARRIED. L. Theriault reported that a hearing to consider three appeals is being convened. Academic Policy and Planning 7.3.1 Notice of Motion: Revision to By-law 14.3 Moved by D. Woolcott, seconded by J. McLaren that Senate approve the revision to By-law 14.3. CARRIED. Graduate Studies 7.4.1 Notice of motion: Revision to By-law 14.3.1, Graduate Studies Committee Terms of Reference Moved by M. Lyon, seconded by S. Medjuck that Senate approve the revision to By-law 14.3.1. CARRIED. Senate agreed to the following friendly amendment to the wording of the membership section of the committee: a maximum of two graduate students, selected in consultation with the Student Union. M. Lyon reported that all Mount students who applied for Canada Graduate Scholarships were successful. CARRIED. 7.14 Undergraduate Admissions and Scholarships 7.14.1 Recommendation to revise Undergraduate Admissions Requirements Moved by L. Theriault, seconded by A. MacGillivary that Senate approve the revisions to the undergraduate admission requirements. CARRIED. L. Theriault agreed to recommend that the grammatical aspects of the Calendar be examined by the editor prior to the next Calendar publication. Under the Bachelor of Arts listing, L. Theriault agreed to include a list of majors referred to in the statement, â Students who are interested in pursuing majors which require mathematics are recommended to complete grade XI and XII academic or advanced mathematics.â 7.15 University Research Ethics Board No report. 8. Other Reports 8.1 Studentsâ Union C. Brushett introduced J. West as the incoming student representative to Senate. 8.2 Board of Governors P. Baker reported that the Board of Governors recently met to discuss governance. The Board considered 4 two issues: 1) a questionnaire/evaluation form that the Board of Governors completed; and 2) a document that examines the roles and responsibilities of the Board of Governors, the President and senior management of the University. The Board approved both documents. Implementation of the recommendations will move forward. 9. New Business 9.1 Spring 2004 Graduate List (Confidential Business) Moved by K. Darvesh, seconded by M. Dewar that Senate permit the Registrar to add an individualâ s name if the requirements are completed prior to the convocation ceremony and further, to adjust any studentsâ distinction status if so warranted.
