dc.description.abstractIn 1991, Canada signed and ratified the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). As such, Canada pledged to disseminate information regarding children's rights and the CRC to children and adults alike. While Nova Scotia has taken a first step in the area of children's rights education by implementing a children‟s rights curriculum, it is thus far unknown as to whether teachers and other adults are educated in this area. This study addresses the question of teacher education in the area of children's rights by assessing pre-service teacher knowledge and education of several rights documents. Support of children‟s rights in the classroom and knowledge of the CRC is also assessed. Due to small sample size, results are largely discussed qualitatively. Few participants in this study were familiar with the CRC, but all were in support of learning more. The implications of adult education in the area of children's rights are discussed, as well as Nova Scotia's obligations under the CRC and the province‟s Education Act.en_US
