Abstract
Description
This policy brief discusses the current state and challenges of renewable energy co-ops in Canada. Although community power projects can enable high impact electricity generation, develop renewable energy technologies and create new green jobs, the successful development of the renewable energy co-op sector in Canada needs a favourable policy environment. Renewable energy co-ops would benefit from access to the grid, a guaranteed competitive rate for the power produced, RRSP eligibility and long term debt financing.
